Oak Class School Trip
East Kirkby Aviation Heritage Centre
As part of our World War 2 Topic, Oak Class visited the East Kirkby Aviation Heritage Centre on Thursday 6th March 2025. We were given a guided tour which gave us so much information about the lives of the bomber command soldiers during World War 2. We saw some museum exhibits such as the Lancaster, the control tower, the hanger and the escape museum. Each group was given a task sheet to complete while visiting the various sites.
After lunch (we had a lovely picnic in the sun!), we took part in Mission Berlin, where we had to take on the roles of the bomber aircraft crew or the defenders of the Reich. Through this exercise we learnt about what different strategies both sides had to consider during a bombing raid. Henry, one of the year 5 children, volunteered to dress up as an American pilot. We also learnt various flight positions and this required exceptional teamwork from all. All in all, we had a lovely day and learnt so much from the interactive games.
