Homework

At our school, we value the important time families have together at home. For this reason, our approach to homework is purposeful, balanced, and designed to support learning without placing unnecessary pressure on pupils or their families.

Our Approach

To complement classroom learning in a manageable way, we provide:

  • Times tables practice to build fluency and confidence in maths
  • A termly topic homework menu, where pupils can choose from a range of creative and engaging activities linked to their current learning
  • Daily phonics videos for those on RWI to reinforce reading and early literacy skills
  • Shared Active Spelling words, allowing children to practise spelling taught that week should they wish at home.
  • We encourage daily reading at home.

Our Aims

Homework is set to:

  • Reinforce key skills taught in school
  • Encourage children to explore topics in a way that suits their interests
  • Support regular reading, spelling, and maths practice
  • Maintain a healthy balance between home learning and family life

How Families Can Support

We encourage families to:

  • Provide a calm, positive environment for homework
  • Encourage children to choose activities from the homework menu that excite them
  • Support daily reading, phonics, spelling, and times tables
  • Celebrate effort and progress

If your child needs support or is finding homework challenging, please speak with their class teacher so we can help.
